Charismatic leadership in action

Updated: Apr 25

Charisma is not charismatic leadership:

Charisma is not charismatic leadership. Charismatic leadership requires a whole set of skills that charisma or personal magnetism do not give you. In fact having charisma can make someone excessively cocksure and lazy about doing what is required in charismatic leadership.

In fact, appointing someone with charisma to a position that requires charismatic, transformational and transactional leadership will almost always fall apart in operations. Charisma is like a "playboy" trait, it is not a skill or ability. It is a trait used to influence followers, hoodwink them but almost invariably create chaos and collapse when dealing with operational execution, tactical implementation, strategy and planning. This may work in sales operations except when behaviour change or transformational change is required to grow the business.

This video describes how we apply charismatic leadership operationally. Personal magnetism and charisma are not charismatic leadership. You can have all 3 however in my 30 years in business and Fortune 500 companies this is where it all falls apart in management and leadership. Moving from charisma/personal magnetism to charismatic leadership is where most managers and leaders fail. In other words having charisma does not make you a great leader if you are flawed in operationalizing that in strategy and tactical execution.

Enjoy :)!
